Can I connect 2 computers by wi-fi without any internet-connection?
A friend of mine out in east Africa wants to network some computers and printers together in an isolated building miles from the internet and create a wi-fi hotspot around it. Do you know if it can be done by wi-fi without an internet-connection, and if so how?
If he uses a standard wi-fi router which expects to connect via DSL/ADSL to the internet, will it fail to link the computers if it can’t establish an internet-connection?
Is there a router specially designed for isolated office-intranets?
Does anyone make equipment to link 2 computers by wi-fi directly, without a router?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Just use a standard wifi router, if it doesnt see the internet, no big deal, the computers can still talk to each other without an internet connection. It wont disable the LAN, the wifi hot spot will be there and will work, just no one will be able to get on the net since there is no internet access point.
